Vanilla Integration Quests

When starting a new game with PTR installed, a player has very little reason to visit mainland Morrowind or other provinces. There are no organic, natural and immersive prompts for the player to leave Vvardenfell. TR_Factions expands the Hortator quest line, but that comes rather late in the game and is essentially higher-level content. PTR tries to remedy the lack of connection with vanilla by introducing some simple miscellaneous quest hooks that send the player from Vvardenfell to the Mainland, or between different provinces.

Main requirements and limitations

All these should be...

  • Simple
    • These should not be large, elaborate quests. The quest hooks exist only to bring the player to the PTR lands. Once the players are there, they will have plenty of interesting content already to hook them in and encourage further exploration.
  • Immersive
    • These hooks should not feel out of place on Vvardenfell. To the uninitiated, they should look as though they are part of the vanilla game. They should allow for those that are into role playing their characters to easily and organically move to the mainland without getting in the way or breaking immersion.
  • Varied
    • Players often restrict themselves to only a few factions or a specific character archetype. Ideally these hooks are varied and numerous enough to cater to all different styles of play.
  • Optional
    • None of this content should get in the way of established vanilla elements. While certain new quests are injected few into established quest chains, these should all be optional, and their dialogue prompts should be one-offs that generate a new topic but do not block the natural faction progression.
  • Clean
    • Implementation-wise, where possible, these should rely on new specific topics that hook into vanilla dialogue.
    • When it is required to alter vanilla dialogue to introduce those topics, new entries should simply be added above the required vanilla dialogue lines and filtered so that it (temporarily) overrides the vanilla entry, for minimal disruption and to minimize the potential for conflicts with other mods.
    • All new entries that override vanilla dialogue should be additionally filtered to Global T_Glob_VanillaOverride = 0 for easier tracking and to be able to disable them in-game by changing the global's value.

  • Vodunius Nuccius' Integration Dialogue (Seyda Neen - Teyn)
  • Yakin Bael's delivery to Bahrammu (Vos - Bahrammu)
  • Brothes Oran carries a response to his earlier letter to his brother(?) Feruren Oran of Writ for Feruren Oran fame stating that their uncle(?) Atran Oran put a price on his head for undermining the family business. Prompts a journal entry to collect a minor reward at Oran Plantation. See also Morag Tong.
  • An agent working for the Zafirbel Bay Company was sent to Sadrith Mora to help secure a new deal between the ZBC and the Telvanni but is having trouble. He asks the player to help him. The player either succeeds or fails to convince the Telvanni, and is then told to go to Helnim to report to a higher up. (a lot of mods cover SM, might be tricky to make this compatible with all of them)
  • A Buoyant Armiger in Molag Mar used to be a retainer of Indoril Triffith in Gorne before joining the Armigers, and wishes to send a gift to his former lord as a show of gratitude.
  • An Imperial Archaeological Society member in Ebonheart claims to have information about the whereabouts of an important piece of Dwemer equipment. His peers in the IAS, however, are not convinced his information is correct, assuming he's making things up to draw attention. Due to this, he cannot get any funding to organise an expedition to recover the item and asks for the player's help. Simple fetch quest to some mainland dwemer ruin.

  • Tongue-Toad's Retirement (Vivec/Ald'ruhn - Teyn)
  • Larienna Macrina of Battle at Nchurdamz supposedly leaves Vvardenfell after said quest (though vanilla forgets to disable her). Could allow us to move her to the mainland with a 'Larienna mentioned that if you're ever in Location, you should seek her out' by Hrundi who gives and finishes the quest.
  • According to Hrundi's dialogue, Sondaale of Shimmerene is seeking permission to study in the city of Sotha Sil after her quest.

Thieves Guild

Imperial Cult

  • Gathering Dust Beetle Shells for Synnolian Tunifus (Ebonheart - Armun)
  • Letter to Daroso Sethri (Hlerynhul - Vivec)
  • Kye, the shrine sergeant, asks you to escort the cult almoner (new NPC) who's instructed to take the big sum of money to the Narsis chapel.
  • Iulus Truptor, the almoner, sends you to Helnim to secure and bring back a donation from the Zaphirbel Bay Company. This quest could be given after his final quest (Pledge from Canctunian Ponius), and the player is instructed to argument that the EEC has just made a big donation, so ZBC should not fall behind their rival.
  • Lalatia Varian, an oracle, tells the player to go to Firewatch because it was revealed to her in a dream that they're destined to defeat an old enemy of the gods (The Blood Mage quest in mt. Sarrunabi). It could probably be given as one of the first quests in her line, so to not shove this questhook at the end of the lengthy vanilla Imperial Cult.

  • Honthjolf's Cousin (Ebonheart - Helnim)
  • Deliver the ashes of Mansilamat Vabdas to Necrom following Widow Vabdas' Deed? Darius could suggest the player checks up on Widow Vabdas following the end of Talos Cult Conspiracy if GetJournalIndex IL_WidowLand >= 120.

Blades

  • Mainland Blades Trainers (Balmora - mainland, could be expanded in the future)
  • Potentially Addhiranirr of Vivec Informants hints the player might visit an (abandoned?) smuggler cave on the mainland and check it out themselves?

  • Letter to Ano Forondas (Vivec - St. Felms Monastery)
  • Delivery to Uvoo Llaren (Narsis - Ghostgate)
  • Mendel Eves died within the Ghostfence, the player finds him during Temple: Cleaver of St. Felms. This Nord(?) may have been raised by Dunmer on the mainland. Zinitrad on discord: "pair of dunmer farmers found this pale cold crying thing swaddled up and abandoned in the snow and against their better judgement gave it a chance at life. now look at him, all grown up and serving lord vivec. if only he'd write more often, they haven't heard from him in so long... simple quest idea to tell the Eves family that their adopted son died fighting the sixth house for lord vivec. They knew they very well might outlive him. They understood that, came to peace with that, the moment raising a nord son in the ways of the temple and the east became more than a flight of fancy, a loving parental commitment. They just never anticipated it would come so early, or come like this. They knew he faced danger as an armiger, but they always trusted that faith in vivec, his seemingly inborn skill with an axe, and the cameraderie of his peers would see him through his forays into hell."

  • Sibling Redemption | (Anvil - Shushan (vanilla cave)) - starts in Anvil IGS - Euratia Valodius' little brother Dunius fell in with a bad crowd years ago, and last she'd heard he was on Vvardenfell somewhere working as hired muscle for slavers. Euratia disapproves strongly, but she loves her brother, and wants to help him get a fresh start. She asks the player to let her know about her brother's whereabouts, if your paths cross, and maybe even convince him to make a change.
