Julan-Shar is a woodland region in the Velothis District, Morrowind, and is controlled by House Redoran. Jagged rocks mix with coniferous trees, lava-feeding fungi and traventine terraces. Redoran cities and fortresses, including the house capital Blacklight, dot the landscape.

Although a 2011-ish implementation exists in TR_RestExteriors, the area will be remade from scratch and much extended in size, taking inspiration from the earlier effort.

Plan

The Julan-Shar will be a relatively frigid woodland area and is thus relatively marginal land in terms of agriculture. The Redoran, however, are well-adjusted to just such conditions and have made it their heartland.

The Julan-Shar aesthetic will likely take inspiration from the old version in TR_RestExterior. Spiky and/or karstic rocks will dot the landscape, culminating in the crater-like surroundings of Blacklight. Lava flows just underground and hot springs have formed numerous traventine terraces. Some fungi have adapted to thrive in the presence of lava and form conduits from which the molten rock flows close to the ground.

Points of interest will include Chimer strongholds, Nord barrows, abandoned Imperial forts, Dwemer ruins, and Daedric shrines.

The current (tentative) plan will see the region greatly extended towards the north, in order to make the coastline correspond to what is seen on most TES maps. This will make Anthology Solstheim or equivalents a hard dependency for Tamriel Rebuilt.

Settlements

  • Blacklight – the largest city in the Velothis District and House Redoran's former capital, this will serve as the center of gravity for Tamriel Rebuilt's Northwestern content and will include all major faction hubs. Built in 2011 by Scamp on the basis of Why's concept, the current look of the city in TR_RestExterior is iconic and will be a heavy inspiration for the future implementation. However, it will have to be overhauled with bespoke assets and significantly spread as the current version is so heavy on object references as to be unplayable.
  • Uvandas – a Redoran village on Lake Cormaris, possibly at the site of an old Nord ruin. On its site used to be the Imperial settlement of Cormaris in old Tamriel Rebuilt planning (still is in TR_RestExteriors).
  • Ildrim – a Redoran village. The name was once used for Darvonis in Sundered Scar.
  • Sunmul – a Redoran village.
  • Melothran – a Redoran outpost.
