Grey Meadows

Grey Meadows is an ash swamp region in the Velothis District, Morrowind, controlled by House Redoran.

The current look of the Grey Meadows, made largely by Nemon and Scamp.

Current Implementation

The region is dominated by ghostly mushrooms and covered with spiderwebs. Some waters run pure, others are fouled by ash, and everywhere there is quiet. Settlement, controlled by House Redoran, only exists on the margins of the region.

This was the first Tamriel Rebuilt region to rely mostly on purpose-made assets and is still considered some of the best-looking exterior work in TR.

Plan

Grey Meadows on the 2022-12-08 gridmap.
Ash Swamp (Grey Meadows) concept by Myzel.

The current look and implementation in TR_RestExterior is to be largely retained. The 2022-12-07 gridmap shifted the region towards the south, at the expense of northeastern Clambering Moors, in order to give Julan-Shar more room. The river network in Grey Meadows needs to be tweaked to look more natural (reworking the weird tuning fork river), odd use of static water ponds on the sea level needs to be removed, land issues fixed, and dungeons added. Asset-wise, unique trees (the current ones are Bitter Coast retextures) and creatures are needed. The western main road from Stones March to Julan-Shar and Great Valley will need to go west of Grey Meadows, not through it, as it does today. At least one small path on the western side, with occasional wooden track sections, will need to be retained or added for gameplay purposes.

Settlements

  • Kogotel – capital of the Redoran Ashes March and a faction hub. Initially started as a renamed Silgrad Tower from TES I: Arena by Noirgrim. The current implementation in TR_RestExterior was made by Nemon and includes a mountain as the centrepiece, which should be switched out to an actual bespoke tower mesh. Otherwise, the current city remains workable. The Kogotel Mages Guild should be in an excavated Dwemer ruin on a cliff at the edge of the city. Because that'd be cool.
  • Falenmar – a Redoran fishing village on the Inner Sea. Previously known as Kogomar in the Clambering Moor, the 2020 CM template meeting decided it needed to be wholly redone, given its odd layout and asset usage.
  • Rhun Huk – a Redoran fishing village on the Inner Sea.
  • Kushimmu – an ashlander tribe.
