Alchemical Larva
The alchemical larva is a ghostly creature found guarding Direnni Ruins.
Aside from their eerie, phosphorescent glow, the alchemical larva is coated with a thick, redorming ectoplasmic slime layer that slowly vapourises into the air. It's held aloft by two floatsacs on its back, making it hover. Although its body is not fully developed, it's very adept at using ranged magick attacks (predominantly shock) to neutralize targets. Spell attacks (especially shock) seem to be ineffective, making the larva a challenging target for spellcasters.
Alchemical larvae can be found in many different stages as flasks on the desks of some ancient Direnni alchemists. Adventurers need to be careful with swinging their swords and aiming their spells, as that could cause the larva inside to awaken.
These larvae were supposedly use to create great creatures to aid the Direnni, as well as guard their treasures.
It's rumored that Dragonlings, and many other not naturally present creatures might descend from experimentation on these larvae.
