Project Tamriel:Master Timeline
[Note: the Dawn Era predates the imposition of linear time by Convention. As such, any defined timeline is artificial by nature. Some events, such as the Velothi exodus or the birth of the Orcs, are attributed to the Dawn Era and Merethic Era both. Interpretation of these events differs greatly between cultures, and no objective truth can be gathered from this.]
- Start of existence from the Void by the interplay/conflict between two opposing entities, primordial forces representing statis and change, existence and nothingness.
- The commingling of the primordial forces in the Beginning Place results in the creation of the Aurbis, the Grey Maybe.
- The Cosmos (Nir) is formed from the Aurbis (chaos, or totality) by Anu and Padomay.
- The Time Dragon, Akatosh/Auriel, is formed, allowing the notion of time and the further crystallization of other strong spirits.
- Gods (et'Ada) and Daedra materialize from the blood of Anu and Padomay after their great battle over creation.
- In Imperial myth, the Original Spirits coalesce in the Beginning Place.
- Nordic and Redguard thought posit that this is merely the reset point of an eternal, cyclical time.
- Interference of Lorkhan, the Doom Drum, a being who convinces/tricks/deceives/inspires the other spirits into making the mortal plane, Nirn.
- Many spirits join to contribute to the making of the world. Magnus serves as the architect.
- Other spirits reject the idea and decide to make worlds within themselves, over which they have complete control. They become the Daedric Princes.
- The world is made, but the creator spirits are infinitely diminished by its construction, subject to time and decay.
- The mortal plane is highly magical and dangerous. As the Gods walk, its physical make-up and even time itself becomes unstable.
- Magnus decides to terminate the project and abandon the Mundus, fleeing for Aetherius. Many other gods (the Magna Ge) follow him.
- Other gods sacrifice themselves into other forms to stay (the Ehlnofey).
War of the Ehlnofey
- Primordial concept-war between the antecedents of man and mer.
- The gods convene at the Ur-Tower, the first spike of reality in the Dawn and one of the axes of creation itself. The physical, spiritual, and magical elements of Nirn are decided upon.
- Lorkhan is separated from his divine center by his enemies. His heart is cast from the Tower by Trinimac.
- Lorkhan's heart lands in the far east, forming a volcano on the site of impact.
- The Aurbis stabilizes around its new center.
- Start of linear history (ME 2500).
- Upon the establishment of linear time, the Ehlnofey slowly diversify into the different races, who all find their way back to Tamriel. They become the Mer, who fracture among cultural and racial lines, and the beasts and humans.
- Elven Dawn Era Notional Events
- Aur-El establishes the first Aldmer kingdoms, Altmora and Aldmeris.
- Aldmeri society fractures into conceptual clans: some, like the Chimer, listen to the Daedra, while others, like the Bosmer, mingle blood with Men.
- The hordes of Men under Lorkhan rebel, conquering Altmora.
- Aldmeris is lost upon the cultural fracturing of the Elves (or it never existed in a physical way). The Aldmer flee, eventually arriving at the Summerset Isles.
- The Maormer, led by their god-king Orgnum, rebel against Aldmeri authority and are banished.
- The Velothi Dissident Movement: in the final days of the Dawn, the prophet Veloth rejects the decadence of Summerset culture and leads a mass migration of the faithful Chimer into the promised land of Resdayn.
- Trinimac and his followers attempt to stop the Velothi exodus, but are tricked and corrupted by Boethiah. Trinimac becomes Malacath, and his followers become the Orcs.
- The Dwemer begin their studies on the process of the sacred becoming the profane, and how to counteract this.
- The degenerate Bosmer strain further devolves into the Khajiit.
- Nordic Dawn Era Notional Events
- Shor creates the world from pieces of the old one, following Alduin's destruction of the previous cycle.
- Tsun leads the Nordic spirits out of Sovngarde to repopulate the world.
- The gods and their people adventure together and make war on the elf-demons.
- Shor and Tsun are killed by the elf-demons. They journey through the underworld until they found Sovngarde in a place that Alduin will not eat.
- Niben-Nedic Dawn Era Notional Events
- Lake Rumare and the Holy River Niben fountain upon the death of Lorkhan/Shezarr.
- The aboriginal tribes of man arise in the Heartlands under the guidance of Shezarr, an unseen spirit of inspiration.
- Many tribes leave Tamriel to wander in the west, north, and other places. The original Nedes stay, and never leave their sacred valley.
- Khajiit Dawn Era Notional Events
- The spirit Nirni gives birth to the forest people, who do not know their shape and suffer for it.
- Azurah places the forest people in the deserts and forests, and binds them to the lunar lattice, thus allowing them to have good and useful forms.
- Nirni, seeing this as betrayal, fills the forests with water and poison, and makes the deserts hot and biting. She allows Y'ffer to take her remaining loyal children and change hem into the Bosmer, to forever distinguish them.
- Argonian Dawn Era Notional Events
- The Hist are a remnant of a world separate from that of the Ehlnofey: one of the twelve realms of existence of Nirn.
- Following the destruction of the old worlds, the Hist remain on the newly constituted world which is mostly Ehnlofey in nature.
- The War of the Ehnlofey destroys even more of the Hist existence-space, despite them being neutral in the conflict.
- The Ehnlofey existence-space is as alien to the Hist as they are to it. They create intermediary lifeforms such as the Argonians to interface with it.
Early Merethic Era
- Earliest date in mortal history. Archaeological studies date Direnni Tower/Ada-Mantia/the Ur-Towers construction to this date, making it the oldest known structure in existence.
- Nordic first year of time.
Middle Merethic Era
(c. ME 2000)
- The Niben valley and its environs are inhabited by numerous aboriginal human tribes, progenitors of the later Nedes, Kothri, etc. Later generations will remember them as "Nedes", though this was the name of but one of many tribes.
- Likewise, the areas later known as the Gold Coast, Hammerfell, and High Rock are inhabited by human and beastmen tribes.
- Construction of Crystal-Like-Law on the Summerset Isles.
(c. ME 2000 - 1500)
- Aldmeri explorer Topal (or Torval) the Pilot sets sail from the Summerset Isles, looking for the mythical continent of Aldmeris. He is the first Elf to explore the shorelines of Tamriel and interact with its aboriginal tribes. Topal explores the course of the river Niben up to the islands in Lake Rumare, which he claims for the Elves (some consider his account a fabrication).
- Various Aldmeri factions colonize the coastline of Tamriel. Presumed birth of the Bosmer, Khajiit, Falmer, and Dwemer civilizations.
- Founding of the first Ayleid city-states in the Cyrodiilic Heartland. Unlike other Elven colonists, the Ayleids settled deep in the center of the continent, subjugating and enslaving the indigenous population. The Ayleid city-states are at first tribute-kingdoms to the throne of Alinor.
- Several enterprising Elven families explore and colonize the northwest of Tamriel, without relinquishing their ties to Alinor. Birth of the Direnni Hegemony.
- The Direnni eventually capture Ada-Mantia.
- Small groups of Atmoran colonists settle the northern shores of Tamriel, fleeing war, hunger, and ill-defined political struggles in their homeland. This slow immigration movement continues for the next hundred years.
- Construction of White-Gold Tower.
- The Ayleid Hegemony expands east and west, founding city-states and fortresses in modern-day Colovia, southern Nibenay, and Argonia.
- Saint Veloth, an Aldmeri prophet and mystic, rejects the decadence of Summerset culture and leads a mass migration of the faithful Chimer into the promised land of Resdayn.
Late Merethic Era
(c. ME 1000 - 800)
- Earliest early archaeological evidence for Human settlements in hammerfell, High Rock and Cyrodiil, centuries before the arrival of the Nords. Actual human settlement likely predates this evidence.
(c. ME 100 - ME 1)
- The colony of Saarthal is founded in northern Skyrim, being the first large-scale Nordic settlement on Tamriel.
- The Night of Tears: Falmeri forces destroy the Nordic colony at Saarthal, driving the Nords back into the sea.
- The Return: the Atmoran warlord Ysgramor gathers his famous Five Hundred Companions and retakes Saarthal from the Elves, thus founding the first Nordic Empire.
- Nordic forces pursue and exterminate the Falmer, destroying all they can find of them and their culture.
- The mysterious god-hero Pelinal Whitestrake appears. This mythical figure, considered an expression of human endeavors and willpower, wanders the world, fighting Elves, founding kingdoms and abandoning them.
- The Camoran Dynasty declares itself independent from the Summerset Isles, founding the independent empire of Valenwood.
- The Ayleid Hegemony declare their own independence from the throne of Alinor.
- The Direnni lords, while also suitable remote and powerful enough to defy Summerset, fail to do so, remaining as a nominal tribute-kingdom.
- Beginning of Nord history writing: Ysgramor records the events in the Elven kingdoms in his native runes, thus becoming the first human historian.
- The Nords finish their conquest of modern-day Skyrim. The Falmer, driven to extinction, disappear from recorded history.
- Tension and small-scale skirmishes occur between the Nordic Empire and the surrounding Elven realms: the Direnni, Velothi, and the Ayleid sphere of influence.
(c. 1E 1 - 1E 113)
- Twelve legendary, possibly fictional Nordic kings reign over Skyrim.
- Earliest mention of the Psijic Order: the renowned Breton sage Voernet, travels to the Isle of Artaeum to meet with Iachesis, the Ritemaster of the Psijics. The order likely existed long before then.
- The last ships from Atmora arrive.
- Birth of the legendary King Harald.
- King harald begins his reign over Skyrim. his empire already covered all of modern-day Skyrim, and continues to expand beyond its borders.
c. 1E 198
- The Narfinsel Schism: the southern Barsaebic city-states of the Ayleid hegemony chafe under the cultural and political dominance of the High Heartland Monarchs. The Barsaebics are conservatives who maintain strong connections with Alinor and Direnni. They are concerned over the Heartland's reliance on Daedric pacts, neglect of the Aedra, abuse of the Dawn Magics, and general deviation from mainstream Aldmer culture.
- The Scouring of Wendelbek: the Barsaebics are defeated by an alliance of Daedrophile Ayleids led by Glenferen of Atatar.
- The surviving barsaebics take refuge in their remote colonies in southern Blackwood and the Argonian borderlands.
- King Vrage the Gifted is born in Tamriel and Atmora simultaneously.
